Director of Marketing and Communications The George Mason University School for Conflict Analysis & Resolution (SCAR) is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic person to serve as Director of Marketing and Communications.

This role serves as SCAR’s Marketing and Communications Director to senior leadership, and develops, supervises, and implements digital, visual, and traditional strategies that support the mission and vision of the organization, and promotes its programs and people to targeted audiences.

Responsibilities: * Assumes overall responsibility for developing the annual marketing and communications plan for the organization, including strategic market planning, market research, a robust digital strategy, budget development, bench-marking and continuous assessment of return on investment based on measurable outcomes, and in-depth analytics; * Advises leadership on best practices in marketing and communications, and collaborates with faculty and staff to maintain effective communication; * Assesses the marketing opportunities and needs of different programs, centers and projects, develops strategies in collaboration with program directors, and manages execution; * Utilizes resources of the university, including the central Office of Communication and Marketing, to manage and execute web development, print and online advertising campaigns, magazine production, and other services offered.

* Manages projects, creates and maintains project plans, and communicates with key stakeholders on major project deadlines, approvals and deliverables; * Identifies public relations opportunities that elevate the organization’s profile, including outreach to local and national media, trade, and professional outlets; * Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: * Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study, plus 2 years of relevant professional experience.

Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience; * Strong communication skills; * Strong organizational and operational skills to oversee and complete multiple complex projects working in parallel; * Knowledge of contemporary trends and techniques in marketing, particularly digital marketing.

Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in marketing and communications in higher education is a plus; * Knowledge of current technologies used in strategic marketing, including web-based software and Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) software; * Experience implementing and developing new systems, programs and executing strategies; * Self-starter, results oriented leader; * Ability to interact effectively with a diverse population at all levels, facilitate decision making and conflict resolution, maintain a positive and constructive demeanor treating all staff, students, faculty and vendors with professionalism, courtesy and respect.
