Work is to assist dentists with care of patient's teeth & gums by chair-side assistance, x-rays, and keeping records.

Hiring at entry level as well as experienced technicians.nEntry level is a high school diploma and learn duties by on-the-job training.

Applications are accepted at multiple grade levels for recruitment of the greatest number of candidates throughout an open period with eligible applicants being placed on a standing register and referred for consideration as vacancies occur.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience.

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

NOTE: Qualification Standards are combination of Individual Occupational Requirements and Group Coverage Qualifications for Technical and Medical Support Positions GS-02nExperience and Education Requirements In order to qualify for this position at GS-2 grade level, either education or experience or a combination is qualifying.

3 (three) months of general experience that demonstrates ability to perform the duties of this position.

Examples of qualifying experience at this level is using basic skills such as listening to others, not interrupting, and asking good questions, talking to others and problem solving such as noticing a problem and figuring out the best way to solve it, (OR) Posses successfully completed a high school education or equivalent.

Minimum Qualifications:nGS-03nIn order to qualify for this position at GS-3 grade level, either education or experience or a combination is qualifying.

All applicants must meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for GS-03 grade level.

Experience in dental assistance to general or specialized dentistry, dental assistant (expanded functions) work, or any combination of these appropriate to the position being filled.

Experience.n6 (six) months of general experience meets the GS-3 grade level.

General experience is any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, (or) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the dental assistant occupation.

OR TrainingnSuccessful completion of (a) a 1-year dental assistant program or completion of 1 year of a dental hygiene program accredited by the American Dental Association's Commission on Accreditation that included a course in radiation physics; radiation biology; radiation health, safety, and protection; X-ray films and radiographic film quality, radiographic techniques; darkroom and processing techniques; and film mounting; or (b) practical nurse training approved by the appropriate State, territory, or District of Columbia accrediting body.

Safety Training to Take Dental Diagnostic X-rays.nAll applicants, wanting consideration at the grade GS-03 must show evidence they meet the requirements of Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75.

Typically, the Dental Assistant at this level is trained by the Dentist and may have received a certificate of completion.

Or, typically a course is taken during the course of formal training as a Dental Assistant.

Applicants should provide a copy of a certificate or provide a copy of transcripts or otherwise indicate date and location of such training on resume.

Time In GradenFederal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.

Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
