This vacancy is for a Computer Scientistposition in the Associate Director of Research and Methodology (ADRM)located at the U.S.

Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland.

The Census Bureau is accessible from Metro Rail Green Line - Suitland Station.nThis Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Computer Scientist, GS-1550-07/09/11/12positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

MinimumEducation Requirement:nBachelor's degree in computer scienceorbachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science.

At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.

All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.nANDIn addition to meeting theMinimumEducation Requirementabove, applicants must have the experience or education listed below or a combination of both.nGS-07nFor theGS-07, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to theGS-05in the Federal service.nSpecialized experience includes: Applying knowledge of programming, software development, or problem solving to support software and system development; participating in thedevelopment of innovative software solutions for projects; and developing, with assistance, software systems using knowledge of techniques, procedures, and processes such as datastructures, service oriented architecture, software engineering, and computer communication.nAND/ORnEducation: 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement.nGS-09nIn addition to meeting theMinimumEducation Requirementabove, applicants must have the experience or education listed below or a combination of both.nForGS-09you must at least one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to theGS-07grade level in the Federal service.nSpecialized experience includes: Applying knowledge of programming, software development, and problem solving to support software and system development; assisting with planning, proposing and or designing segments of IT programs; and analyzing needs and product requirements to create software designs and codes.nEducation: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.nGS-11nIn addition to meeting theMinimumEducation Requirementabove, applicants must have the experience or education listed below or a combination of both.nFor theGS-11you must have at least one year experience equivalent to theGS-09grade level in the Federal service.nSpecialized experience includes: Analyzing needs and product requirements to create software designs and code based on a specified rule or set of rules; participating in the planning,designing and implementation for segments of IT programs; developing and implementing major component system testing strategies; utilizing modern programming languages such as Python, SAS and Java Script Frameworks, and other advanced computer engineering techniques.nAND/ORnEducation: 3 academic years of progressively higher level graduate education, leading to a LL.M.

or doctoral degree.nGS-12nIn addition to meeting theMinimumEducation Requirementabove, applicants must have the experience or education listed below or a combination of both.nFor theGS-12you must have at least one year of experience equivalent to theGS-11grade level in the Federal service.nSpecialized experience includes: Developing software systems and system documentation; developing software solutions for IT projects; modifying software to correct errors, to adapt itto new hardware or to upgrade interfaces and improve performance; and conducting application updates and production releases on IT systems.nEducation cannot be substituted for experience for this position at this grade level.nExperience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
