The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF A MAINTENANCE MEHCANIC WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION INCLUDING 1) Lays out work using blueprints, sketches, work orders, and other specifications; 2) Uses standard math to calculate needed materials for job; and 3) Uses saws, hammers, chisels, and other hand tools.

Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website:n PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Normal exertion is required, lifting up to 65 pounds above and heavier weights with assistance of others.

Work is performed in a kneeling, crouching, stooping, and awkward position.

Must climb ladders.

Most work performed requires good eyesight, colorvision, and good hearing.

Occasionally works for short periods exposed to hazards such as sharp edges, moving objects, excessive heat or cold, physical exertion, dust, electric shock, and eye hazards.

Incumbent will be exposed to injuries such as cuts, bruises, shocks, burns, crushed fingers, etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Approximately 80% of the work is performed indoors.

Some work outdoors is required regardless of weather conditions.

Uncomfortable working conditions exist, such aa extreme temperatures, smoke, dust, noise, poor illumination, poor ventilation, or unpleasant odors.

Incumbent may be subject to rotational work assignments for extended periods to perform duties at various locations, including sea duty on board ships and on the off-shore islands, which require travel by military or commercial aircraft, boats and ships.

A physical examination administered by base medical personnel may also be required to determine fitness for duty in terms of specific physical capabilities deemed necessary by management officials.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
