Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status and will be for a period not-to-exceed 1039 hours in a service year.

To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled.

WG-03: Laborers at this level have knowledge and skill in the operation, control, and cleaning of heavy power equipment (e.g.

single-function power lawn mowers with one or more cutting decks and mechanical controls, chain saws, jackhammers).

They also know how to work safely with heavy tools (axes, picks, tampers, chain saws, etc.).

Laborers at this level have skill in performing routine operator maintenance and adjusting the cutting height of blades on power mowers.

They may operate weight-handling devices such as electric hand trucks or lifts, pallet jacks, and dollies to move very heavy loads.

Laborers at this level must perform duties that continually involve extremely heavy physical effort and lifting items weighing up to 80 to 100 pounds.

The nature of the duties and the kind of equipment used also require continual care and attention both to avoid accidents and to complete work according to established schedules.

Laborers at this level also complete assignments involving several familiar processes which require remembering directions and/or sequences.

WG-04: Laborers at this level have the skill and knowledge to operate and control large, complex riding mowers and similar type of specialized mowing equipment.

Skill and knowledge is used to operate and control large, complex riding mowers and similar types of specialized mowing equipment.

Equipment is typically operated in areas that require constant attention to working space and environment (e.g., equipment height and width when working around trees, trenches, large potholes, slopes, curbs, rocks and other visible obstacles).

Skill is used in the operation of various controls and levers to maneuver equipment, and lift/lower, adjust, engage/disengage components or attached devices.

Skill and knowledge is used to complete all aspects of special assignments involving several steps, phases, or detailed procedures (e.g., preparing ground, laying sod, planting flowers or shrubs, and using simple drawings to establish a planting pattern and/or design).

Assignments of this nature typically require a practical knowledge of project requirements.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must meet the qualification requirements to be found qualified.

You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

Physical Effort: Duties require the employee to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.

Heavier items may occasionally be lifted with assistance of lifting devices or other workers.

May work on steep terrain covered in slash and debris.

Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside, often in the presence of dirt, dust, grease, and fumes.

Assignments involve exposure to the possibility of scrapes, burns, cuts, bruises and insects.

Workers may be exposed to bad weather.

Duties often require the use of protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.
