For GS-09: You must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in Outdoor Recreation Planner work.

Examples of specialized experience include: (1) researching and/or replying to requests from special interest groups, and questions from the general public regarding outdoor recreation programs; (2) performing fact finding, analytical, or interpretive work to support assignments; (3) analyzing data related to existing and potential recreation resources in order to identify prominent trends; (4) preparing data summaries and basic drafts of supporting material for inclusion in resource study reports; -OR- A related master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR an LL.B.

or J.D.; -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education.

Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.

For GS-11: You must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in Outdoor Recreation Planner work.

Examples of specialized experience include: (1) coordinating with managers, planners, and resource specialists to identify recreation program needs; (2) monitoring studies and surveys, to identify trends and patterns in the development and management of recreation resources; (3) conducting outreach to promote recreational opportunities on public land; (4) representing an agency at management and professional conferences for the purpose of advancing advocacy for public lands stewardship; -OR- A related Ph.D.

or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR an LL.M.; -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education.

Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604.

If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.

Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary.

However, there may be some physical exertion such as walking; hiking; standing; bending; carrying of items such as books and backpacks; driving an automobile or off-highway vehicle; operating a small boat, etc.

Work Environment: Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate controlled office.

Occasional travel may be required.

The position may be required to visit field sites where risks may include exposure to inclement weather and potential injury from falls, strains, bites, stings, etc.

The incumbent will adhere to all safety rules and regulations as prescribed in manuals/supplements or designated by the Safety Officer.
