Qualifications for GS-09: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal Service; OR master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.B.
or J.D., if related.
Education and experience may be combined to meet qualification requirements.
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
Examples include:performinga variety of activities involved in the development and implementation of relatively routine changes to regulations restricting the land disposal of hazardous wastes; Evaluating the feasibility and probable effects of proposed regulations; developing position papers, issue papers, workgroup materials, and briefing papers for higher-level managers; developing preamble language for proposed and final rules; assisting in developing policy guidance to implement the various provisions of environmental standards; Inspecting storage areas; providing technical guidance to personnel involved in the handling and disposal of hazardous materials and wastesand preparing required reports; and acting as COTR on emergency services basic ordering agreements.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
