This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Navajo Region in Fort Defiance, Arizona.
The incumbent of this position is to provide leadership of and oversight of wildland fire suppression/management/control, as a seasoned, experienced firefighter on an engine, helitack, prescribed fire, or wildland fire module, or on a handcrew.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Technical and Medical Support Positions and Individual Occupational Requirements for GS-0462: Forestry Technician Series).
GS-07: 1 year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-06 level duties.
Examples of specialized experience include but are not limited to work in forest or range fire control, prevention or suppression work as a lead wildland firefighter directing others in the use of a variety of specialized wildland fire tools and equipment; directing and performing prescribed burning; leading the operation of a wildland fire engine or suppression efforts of a helicopter module or one full year of graduate education in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position or a combination of experience and education which total at least one year.
For example, 6 months of experience (50% of the experience) and one semester of related graduate-level study (50% of the education requirement).
This position has been identified as one of the key fire management positions under the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) Standard.
This position has been categorized as a Engine Module Supervisor, and requires selectee to meet the minimum qualification standards for IFPM prior to being placed into the position.

8336(c) (CSRS) and 5 U.S.C.
8412(d) (FERS) subject to maximum entry age and mandatory retirement at age 57, or any time after 57, upon reaching 20 years of covered service.
Applicants for this position must not have reached their 37th birthday upon appointment to this position unless there is prior service in an approved covered position to permit retirement on/before the mandatory retirement age of 57 or you are a preference eligible veteran.
If you are a preference eligible veteran, you may be eligible for this position after your 37th birthday.
