The United States Probation Office in the District of Hawaii invites applications for the position of Drug Analysis Technician located in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The position is responsible for providing technical support services through the efficient operation of an on-site regional lab facility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be eligible for appointment at a CL-24, the candidate must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to work at a CL-23.

Specialized experience is progressively responsible clerical or administrative experience requiring the regular and recurring application of clerical procedures that demonstrate the ability to apply a body of rules, regulations, directives, or laws and involve the routine use of specialized terminology and automated software and equipment for word processing, data entry or report generation.

Candidate must have a valid, unexpired driver's license.

Candidates must also demonstrate: Ability to work under pressure with short deadlines while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor; Ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and foster high ethical standards; Ability to interact and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people of diverse backgrounds.

This includes offenders, law enforcement and collateral agency personnel at different government levels, and community service providers; Ability to think through, analyze and interpret written communications; and Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the minimum qualifications, preference will be given to applicants with at least two years of progressively responsible work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of a Drug Analysis Technician.

Demonstrated ability to conduct drug testing processes and to implement practices and procedures used in a drug testing laboratory, as well as knowledge of bar-coding procedures to ensure proper handling of tests.

Clinical laboratory or biology/science background and/or degree.
