This position is located in the Research Support Branch for the Economic Research Service (ERS) in Kansas City, MO.

In this position, you will serve as a senior level resource in geography and in the application of the Geographic Information System (GIS) in order to capture, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of geographical data used in conjunction with ERS research.

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

Basic Requirements:n1.

Degree: geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fieldsnORn2.

Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

AND In addition to the basic requirement above, all applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications: Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled.

Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised.

The specialized experience requirements for this position are: FOR THE GS-12: Qualifying experience for GS-12 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-11 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

For this position, specialized experience is experience utilizing a Geographic Information System to perform Geospatial analysis on research projects; and managing or acquiring geospatial data sets.

FOR THE GS-13: Qualifying experience for GS-13 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-12 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

For this position, specialized experience is experience utilizing a Geographic Information System to perform Geospatial analysis on research projects; managing or acquiring geospatial data sets; and ensuring that data sets comply with organization requirements or standards.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
