Deputy Assistant Secretary for Information and Technology, Department of Veterans Affairs
The Telecommunications Equipment Operator serves the Office of Information and Technology (OlT), Enterprise Infrastructure Engineering (EIE) division by providing audio and video teleconference service for VA nationwide, and establishing, operating and maintaining ancomputer database designed to control bridging equipment.

The Selective Placement Factor for this position is: Experience operating an electronic teleconferencing system.
You may qualify based on your education/experience, as described below: For GS-5:nEducation: 4 years above high school; OR One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Specialized experience includes establishing, operating and maintaining a computer database designed to control bridging equipment; coordinating audio/visual teleconferences; troubleshooting technical issues during meetings;nORnCombination of Education and Specialized Experience: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level.
Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.
One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.nA transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.nFor GS-6:nOne year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Specialized experience includes troubleshooting equipment and line problems; monitoring and assuring audio and video quality of conferencesnestablished; maintaining all teleconference records for accounting purposes.nFor GS-7:nOne year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Specialized experience includes maintaining incident tracking and solution database for electronic teleconferencing system; making recommendations based on trend analysis for enhancements to software and hardware solutions; installing and configuring hardware, software, and peripheral equipment for system users in accordance with organizational standards.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social).
Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
