The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is April- May, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.
Anticipated Entry on Duty: End of April 2021.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience.
To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time).
If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position at the GS-04 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: Possess six months of general experience and six months of specialized experience.
General experience is six months of progressively responsible field, laboratory, clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of a Biological Science Technician.
General experience includes assisting in the preparation of reports, utilizing computer programs to store and retrieve data, and providing information to others.
Specialized experience is six months of experience equivalent to the GS-3 level that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Biological Science Technician.
Specialized experience includes one or more aspects of vegetation management such as: performing basic vegetation inventories, studies, and surveys; applying/performing a variety of manual, mechanical, chemical invasive plant management techniques; etc.

-OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least two years of education above high school (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours) with course work related to the biological sciences with major study that included at least 12 semester hours of course work in a related field of scientific study, such as in biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, mathematics, wildlife biology, natural resource management or other directly-related subject matter.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
