University Overview   Part of the internationally respected Purdue University system, Purdue University Northwest offers world-class educational opportunities at an excellent value on two culturally diverse, student centered campuses, located in Northwest Indiana and in close proximity to Chicago.   Purdue Northwest has approximately 10,000 students and offers more than 70 degree programs at the baccalaureate, masters and doctoral levels.  Purdue Northwest Athletics consists of 250 student athletes and 15 sports and is a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and NCAA Division II.

Intercollegiate athletic teams are fielded in men’s and women basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s golf, softball and baseball.  Men’s Ice Hockey is offered as a club sport.  Purdue Northwest has recently developed new basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball, baseball, tennis, and ice hockey facilities.

For more information on the Purdue University Northwest athletics program please go to PNWathletics.com Job Summary Serve as Assistant Athletic Director for Student Success reporting to the Director of Athletics.  Responsible for the oversight, direction, and management of the academic support systems and student-athlete welfare.  Serve as liaison to Academic Affairs, Academic Advisors, Faculty, Counseling Center, Disability Access Center, the Dean of Students Office, Residential Life and the Career Center.   Lead priority registration process and monitor student-athletes progress towards degree.  Assists the Director of Athletics to ensure compliance with gender equity and Title IX guidelines and monitors areas of student-athlete well-being.  Serve as an advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).  Directs student-athlete welfare, leadership development, and department wide educational programming.

Lead community engagement activities.  Maintain knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

Essential Duties Responsible for the oversight, direction, and management of the academic support systems and student-athlete welfare.  Assist and advise student-athletes and monitor areas of student-athlete well-being.

Oversee academic success systems including fall orientation workshops, team travel absence request letters, hiring tutors and study hall proctors, and mid-term progress reporting Work closely with Faculty Athletic Representative to ensure that lines of communication with the Faculty are open and well-established.  Serve as liaison to Academic Affairs, Academic Advisors, Faculty, Counseling Center, Disability Access Center, Dean of Students Office, Residential Life and Career Center.

Work closely with the Registrar to track academic progress and progress towards degree.

Act as liaison for women’s teams to the Director of Athletics, Office of Equity and Diversity, and NCAA.  Assists the Director of Athletics to ensure compliance with gender equity and Title IX guidelines.

Represent the intercollegiate athletic program on appropriate University, Conference and NCAA committees Serve as an advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

As a part of the job responsibilities associated with this position, knowledge of rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA and conference should be maintained, reviewed and practiced ensuring compliance relative to those applicable duties.

Core Competencies Ability to analyze course prerequisites, certification, and/or curriculum/graduation requirements.

Ability to evaluate student transcripts and/or records.

Knowledge of collegiate academic structures and processes and the ability to lead and guide student-athletes.

Knowledge of a wide range of learning strategies and study skills development techniques.

Knowledge of NCAA, conference and institutional student policies and procedures and those related to assigned departments.

Knowledge of applicable university practices and procedures.

Knowledge of applicable state and federal rules and regulations, including Title IX understanding.

Ability to speak in public, lead small group meetings, and make presentations.

Must be able to demonstrate success in planning and implementing programs and activities that increase the likelihood of student-athletes receiving baccalaureate degrees Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information; ability to meet the needs of student-athletes experiencing adjustment or academic difficulties; demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations and commitment to educational opportunity; knowledge in developing varied study skills approaches and resources for student-athletes.  Skills desired include: strong cross-cultural interpersonal skills; strong interpersonal, writing and speaking and leadership skills; demonstrated strong, student-centered ethic; ability to relate to student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and parents; Ability to gather data, compile information, maintain records and prepare reports.

Ability to analyze and solve problems and use independent judgment to manage and impart confidential information; and the ability to work evenings and weekends.  Ability to work on multiple projects at one time and respond to multiple competing demands.

Proficiency with a computer and relevant software applications.

Ability to process, review and evaluate student documents.

Ability to supervise staff.

Ability to provide training for department and institution staff members and student-athletes.  As a part of the job responsibilities associated with this position, knowledge of rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA and conference should be maintained, reviewed and practiced to ensure compliance relative to those applicable duties.

Education Bachelor's degree in education, social work, counseling, communications or related field required.

Master's degree in higher education, counseling, or related field preferred Experience Two years of experience working in academic advising, teaching, counseling, student affairs, or related field.  Experience at an institution or conference office are required.   Two years experience developing and implementing educational programs and services for students in a higher education environment or related area.
