The position of Health Technician (Optometry) is located in the Optometry Clinic, Fort Peck Service Unit, Wolf Point Montana.
The position reports the Optometrist or designee.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social).
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience.
You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Individual Occupational Requirements Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists.
Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
The following shows the amounts of education and/or experience required to qualify for positions covered under this standard.
Education and TrainingnGS-03: Successful completion of l year of study that included study in medical, health, or related fields.nGS-04: Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in subjects related to the position.nGS-05: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.nGS-06: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level.
NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable.
General Experiencen(l) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2)nexperience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation.
Specialized ExperiencenExperience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated, are not required by this standard to have general experience education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSnYour resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following types of tasks: For GS-3: Six (6) months of general experience OR successful completion of one (1) year of study that included study in medical, health, or related fields.
Examples of specialized experience at the GS-04 LevelnMake and schedule appointments for patients.
Experience working in a medical office setting.
Interview clients for medical information and entering data into an automated patient system.
Explain procedural processes of medical visit to patients and family members.
Order and maintain office or programs specific type supplies.
Intermediate in using various computer software programs used in drafting report data or other administrative support needs .
Assist the coders by completing the merges on a daily basis.
Examples of Specialized Experience at the GS-05 LevelnManage a medical office setting.
Operate automated retinal equipment.
Explain proper care and prevention by educating patients and family members.
Screen patients for routine or non-routine tests.
Knowledge of the optometry field and terminology used.
Operate equipment used in the optometry field.
Examples of Specialized Experience at the GS-06 Level Coordinate the appointment system including the making of appointments, compiling appointment system data, mailing appointment notices, maintain appointment system duties.
Initiates, tracks and maintains optometry clinic requisitions for supplies and equipment.
Organize student vision screenings.
Maintain records and reports, including preventive maintenance, equipment evaluation & equipment.
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.
Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
