The Southwestern Power Administration (SPA) is a federal agency within the U.S. Department of Energy responsible for marketing and distributing hydroelectric power generated at federal dams in the southwestern United States.
History: SPA was established in 1941 to market power from the Grand Coulee Dam in Washington State.
Current Status: SPA serves customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and parts of Missouri and New Mexico. It operates eight hydroelectric dams and markets power from several other federal projects.
